How Can hot Flashes Along With Excessive Sweating Be Treated?

Lately (in the past few months) I have been experiencing random occurrences of what seem like hot flashes. I start sweating and feeling hot for no reason, and then within 10 minutes or so it goes away. I am female, 68 years old, and went through menopause long ago. I am otherwise healthy, but this is bothersome and seems to come on for no reason. I must wipe sweat off my body two or three times in a twenty-four hour period, often, but not always, in the middle of the night. Can you help?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Your thyroid function needs to be investigated, if not done already. If these are normal, then most probably you have an overactive sympathetic nervous system which is not under one's control and can cause excessive sweating.

Maybe it has been passed on genetically from your dad. It is difficult to suggest a remedy without identifying the underlying cause. You may try going to a specialist in general medicine for help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
